Decitabine is a cytosine analogue. Once it is incorporated into the cellular DNA, it blocks an enzyme called DNA methyltransferase. This mechanism reactivates tumor suppressor genes, controls abnormal cell division, forces malignant bone marrow tissues to die off, and helps the body restore normal, healthy blood cell production. It is primarily prescribed for Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS) and Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML)
